Support for Mortgage Interest confusion with UC was created by tigerblue
Hi. SMI loan taken out whilst house on sale and offer on house now accepted. Never received account information. Found it so hard to get the application forms in the first place and then communication minimal.
Suddenly got a message on UC portal to say payments stopped! Contacted SMI and finally found out that they have little info as it is paid by UC?
All this time have never found anyone who really understands it and worried that loan against house without fully understood.
Now 2 problems
1 loan stopped but money from house sale not there yet as only just accepted offer. Mortgage company will not be happy!
2 solicitor need account etc to repay loan but don’t have it
Anyone any advice? Links etc
Thanks

As far as I understand SMI is not administered by UC staff but by another part of the DWP called DWP Loan Management.

Hi
That’s what we thought but they have said that it’s different if on UC.
Anyone else able to help?
Thanks though

Hi tigerblue
I don't think it is. Have you phoned the number I gave?
The following official guidance states UC as well.
