Meeting my MP tomorrow! was created by SuperSuze
Hello everyone,

I'm meeting my MP tomorrow (Dame Chi Onwurah) as part if her monthly constituency meetings to get assistance with my Universal Credit claim and Mandatory Reconsideration.

Someone on this forum mentioned that MP's have a special in-road with the DWP. Is there something that I need to specifically request her offices to do? Or will she know already?

I realise this is a daft question, but it's very important. Otherwise, I'll likely have to wsit months and months to go to a tribunal.

Hope you're all holding in there x

Hi SuperSuze,
I think that the only thing an MP can do is to deal with delay. I had a a legal problem for Mum that was just bogged down with delay and lost papers. Our MP sorted in 10 days, including a weekend what we had been trying to do for nearly a year. This wasn't to do with DWP but clearly the MP had the correct contacts to undo all the previous unnecessary bureaucracy. It helped considerably with us to set out the problem on a page of A4 with a brief timeline. Have a specific question, eg 'why does DWP continually say they can't progress my claim as I haven't sent in X when I have done so 5 times, please can you get DWP to look at my claim'or simply 'it has been over 3 years and DWP hasn't made a decision on X, can you do something about the delays'.
Set out the time line as bullet points.
It is likely you will only get a fairly short time so be precise and to the point.
Please be aware, that unless there is a procedural issue including delay I'm not sure that your MP will be able to get DWP to make a favourable decision, so you may still need to await the tribunal.
Make notes, but it is likely you will be sent a summary of the conversation and what you and or MP will need to do. Ask if you will get a summary when you start.
I hope this helps

Thanks, LL26. That's really helpful. I'll write some bullet points and take along printed copies of evidence to discuss with her tomorrow.

Any expedition of the delays will be useful. I can't believe that Mandatory Reconsiderations have no deadline, so maybe I'll raise that issue with her.

Glad it helped in your case....
