Hi, I'm currently on contribution based esa (support group) my hubby has been on long-term sick from work since end sept due to prostate & lung cancer. He's about to apply for new style esa as ssp runs out soon. Macmillan have advised we are eligible for UC but we'd have to do a joint claim.
My questions are: is there a way I can try to guarantee I keep my contribution based esa? Doubt id get transitional protection switching to UC as only doing so cos of joint claim? The whole process worries me so Any advice would really be appreciated as UC rules are new to me. Thanks 🙂
As you are in receipt of CB ESA and in the support group you would be placed in the LCWRA group you should also move onto NS ESA which is also contribution based.
When you apply for UC, you can only get one LCWRA element , you may also be eligible to claim the care element but it cannot be the same person claiming the LCWRA element.
Remember NS ESA is paid fortnightly, whereas UC is paid monthly, NS ESA will be deducted £ for £ from your UC allowance.
Is Macmillan helping hubby apply for PIP?
