ESA to UC migration application timing was created by Fulci Lives!
I’m a member of a Facebook benefit advice group and I’ve been advised it’s best not to submit my migration application in the first, or last week of any month as it can cause ‘complications’
Is this true?
I was planning to apply the day after my last ESA payment, which is 9 days before my deadline. I’m in the Support Group with no wages coming in at all.
They also told me they don’t recommend using CAB as they are often wrong.
This has now confused and worried me.
Can anyone give me some advice please?

Hi Fulci Lives!
You need to get your timing right when transitioning over to UC from ESA .
Remember UC has an assessment period for example 17th July to 16th August you then receive your UC 7 days later (23rd August)
If a claimant is going to be worse off, you are best to leave claiming until the last moment, if you are in receipt of ESA wait until your ESA payments has hit your bank account and then apply for UC.

The reason I was advised not to apply at the beginning or end of the month was because of monthly wages and assessment periods overlapping, (or something like that). I’m still unsure what that means as they weren’t very specific.
I can’t work at the moment (and probably won’t be able to for the foreseeable future) but I’d still like to understand what the implications could be.
I plan to submit my migration application at the very end of the month as that’s my last ESA payment before my deadline.

Only you can answer your question as we do not know your situation, we regularly hear on the forum where there has been an issue in proving your identity which can have a knock on effect.
for claimants in receipt of ESA, I would advise you to apply once your ESA hits your bank account as stated previously ESA is paid fortnightly whereas UC is paid monthly.
