Hello,

I’ve been receiving UC since the Spring after being migrated from ESA. I was receiving Housing Benefit for the full amount of my rent as it fell within the Local Housing rate. Last month my rent increased for the second time in 16 years - the increase was £120, which is still within the Local Housing Allowance for a 2 bed house.

The UC payment I received yesterday was the exact same amount as last month, but now the housing cost is + £120, which is for the landlord. My personal circumstances have not changed, yet I am £120 worse off. Is this correct and is there anything I can do about it? Many thanks, K.

Hi KittyLaLa

Unfortunately once you receive TP any increase in most types of benefits will reduce your TP until it goes down to zero. Each year when benefits are uprated those in receipt of TP will not benefit from the increase until their TP has eroded to zero. There are other circumstances where TP will be eroded.

Childcare increase costs do not affect TP.
