I've recently changed to UC and have been given a phone appointment to discuss my claim for NS ESA. When I changed from IB to ESA I was put in the WRAG, so CB-ESA stopped after the first year. All my yearly uprating letters since then have stated my ESA was IR, no mention of contribution anywhere. I have absolutely no idea what this is about, but I'm curious so I'll ask during the call.He has not made a claim for NS ESA, though, and is now very distressed because he doesn't understand what this means? I am at a loss, too, so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance, Maddie

Hi everyone, I have had the same, I completed my migration recently and received a message advising I was going onto NS ESA. I was previously on Income Related ESA so do not understand it. I visited the jobcentre where they tried to explain that I had IR & CB ESA previously so new style ESA is my new benefit. However, I am contesting this as it cannot be right. New Style ESA is being merged into yet another benefit in 2028/29. I have informed the jobcentre via my journal that that it is incorrect, unfair, and possibly illegal to do this - they cannot put me and others at such a disadvantage. If this was the case then everyone would be migrated to NS ESA, as the DWP pay NI contributions for everyone. I am thinking of consulting a solicitor. I'd be grateful for any thoughts on this.

Hi
This has also happened to me. I was migrated from ESA support group to UC. I was in support group ESA for more than 12 years.
Today I get a letter saying I wasl getting contributory ESA and will now get NS ESA. Very confused, I haven'ty worked for over 12 years, I have been on ESA in support group for those 12 years. I thought my NI contributions were long over. I was told ages ago I was IR ESA. I phoned DWP and they said nothing to worry about, it is correct. I will get UC and NS ESA.
None of this prompts new fitness tests does it? I am still being moved from support to the equivalent of support group (LCWRA?). No hoops to jump through cos of the migration?
Same entitlement money wise? Nothing for my every worryingh brain to worry about?
Thank you
G

Hi ASC
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.
We are coming across posts like yours on a regular basis, as we do not know the breakdown of your ESA it is hard to give you a definitive answer, I came across a similar client today.
If you were in receipt of CB-ESA and received any disability premiums, the disability premium would have been paid via IR-ESA therefore being told by DWP that you will be placed in NS-ESA and UC would be correct, remember UC is paid monthly whereas NS-ESA is paid fortnightly.
