My daughter has a UC review today and has heard they might want to see her bank statements. She feels strongly that this is an invasion of her privacy and it has triggered a spiral of anxiety and depression. Can she provide just account balances and statements showing income? Surely how she then spends her money is no one’s business but hers?

Hi Kateh368

Very few people get asked to show their bank statements, so she may not get asked. If they ask, they provide the reason why. I'm afraid that if they make the request, then she would have to show complete bank statements. Of course she can refuse, but she would then put her claim in danger.
