is there a catch I'm not being told about re UC vs UC=cbESA was created by BS65
Am in the support group. thought I was on ir esa, and would be placed on UC with no hitches during the ESA-UC migration.
But I got message from UC and then saw during the 5 wk wait, I'd got ESA payments while waiting for 1st UC payment. I thought I was overpaid so rang ESA. ESA told me on the phone its not an overpayment but its cb-ESA and that I'd get topped up with UC as well.
They said some opt to then change from gettting cb-ESA & UC, to just 100% UC. I asked why some opt but others dont opt - didnt' really get a clear answer and the only answer they gave me were examples that really don't apply to me at all.
I am naturally worried what changes may come next yr to disability benefits and want to do all I can to secure my support group & DLA long term, from now, now that I'm on UC. If I make a decision now I don't want to regret it in the future. So my question to you is:
if i choose to accept IR esa and UC instead of 100% UC, will this mean I lose out with my disability benefits in the future?
Or
if I choose 100% UC without IR-esa, will I lose out in some way with my disability benefits in the future?
Owing to a wait before I get appt with welfare rights (who btw did not mention any of this to me when we did the UC application, ho hum), I hope you can tell me what could go wrong if
one opts for 100% UC
or if
one opts to get IR ESA and UC
thank you so much for your responses

Hi BS65
I am not psychic so I cannot predict what could go wrong in the future. The bad news about UC at the moment is the large number of claimants being " hauled in " for questioning under the Targeted Case Review. Some claimants are having their UC suspended prior to the review and being asked for months worth of bank statements. This is unlikely to occur with a contributions based Benefit such as New Style ESA.
Also New Style ESA would not be affected by potential changes in relationship status or savings amounts.
Also as UC is means tested in the future the means test could be made more severe by the government, and this is less likely to affect a contributions based Benefit such as New Style ESA.
Hope this helps

My reading of this is that NS ESA + UC will be safer than just UC.
With UC you will still be able to access passported benefits AND with NS ESA, may have a more secure future as it is Contributions Based.
We cannot predict the future, but this would be my take on things.
