Just a heads up if you are migrated (managed) to UC and have a PIP award pending. I had migrated in the middle of waiting on my PIP decision. Once awarded and also awarded SDP (Severe Disability Premium), I had backdated payments for both, SDP through ESA dept up to the migration date. I informed, via my UC Journal, of the new awards and kept getting told I was not owed any transitional protection for SDP. I asked for a case manager to look at this as I felt it was incorrect. Said case manager called me and told me I was wrong and that I was getting more than legacy benefit and that I wouldn’t be getting any transitional protection.

I contacted Citizens Advice and they did calculations. I was indeed owed transitional protection of approximately £230 a month! We had a 3 way call with UC Mandatory Reconsideration Dept. A form was completed by them and I am now awaiting a decision. However, the chap actually said his calculations also proved I would get TP too.

I’m fuming to be honest, as I felt gaslit by the original Case Manager. I was a finance and Development Manager before getting ill. So I knew in my gut something wasn’t right. I can add up haha.

Anyway, stand your ground. Also the Citizens Advice were a great help.

Hi AngeYorks

Thank you for your post, it will give encouragement to fellow members not to give up if you think something is wrong, unfortunately it is not uncommon.
