Esa income related & contribution based ESA migrating to Universal credit was created by Nutcracker
Ive just submitted my form online, for universal credit. Having looked through my journal, it stated" benefits that may effect your Universal credit claim" I clicked on it & showed ESA. I had a bit of thought & couldn't understand why this was, as id always been led to believe that I was income related ESA. I rang the DWP & they confirmed that I only get a small contribution & the bulk is income related. Im really confused how does this effect my transitional protection. Im also in the support group so Should transfer to LCWRA on universal credit, but it says the following on my journal......You said your health affects you at work or prevents you from working. You might need to have an assessment before we can consider if you will get extra money for this. Is this right, or has anybody else had these problems, but now have them sorted I'd be grateful of any help/advice as im just worrying constantly & especially about a WCA. Thanks in advance

Hi Nutcracker
I'm afraid this is coming up for a lot of people at the point of migration, because claimants are now being told their contribution-based ESA is being moved to NS-ESA during the migration process.
Don't worry too much about the claimant commitment meeting. If you are in the support group then your claimant commitment should simply involve agreeing to report changes in your circumstances, the same as it did for your UC. You can ask for reasonable adjustments to be made, such as the interview to be over the phone (see page 26 here

The letters are fairly generic - you should not be asked to provide a fit note, look for work or prepare for work because you are in the support group.
The other thing you need to know is that NS-ESA will be paid separately from UC. NS-ESA is paid fortnightly then the monthly equivalent of it is deducted from your monthly UC payments.
Citizens Advice Help to Claim would be able to calculate exactly what you can expect in your individual circumstances - see page 46 of the managed migration guide above.
As you were in the support group, you should get the LCWRA element without an assessment or being asked for a fit note. What is happening is new claimants for UC from ESA are being sent a UC50 form to complete, the UC50 form is the same as the ESA50 form.
