New esa application question was created by Natty
I was terminated due to ill health on 28th July.
I found PIP a very stressful procedure & they awarded me basic pip they said I didn’t suffer with Anxiety & depression as I understood my illness during telephone assessment.
I was too worried to appeal.
I have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands & my doctors have made many mistakes with referrals & diagnoses in the past 25 years I now have problems with my back, neck, shoulders, knee & ankles. I have hospital appointment 10th Sept. But I need to apply for new esa & don’t know where to start.
My daughter (over 40) has been having seizures for more than 5 years & has attempted suicide on 2 occasions due to hospitals handling of her condition. She stabbed herself in the chest with a skewer which pierced the pericardial sac around the heart which led to emergency heart surgery. I’ve struggled to get her help & my physical & mental health has suffered. I can’t think straight as I go on when I try to explain.
If I apply for new ESA will it be backdated to when my SSP was finished or is it from when I apply?
I hope this makes sense. Sorry. X

Hi Natty

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.

You need to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration and your sons when giving you advice.

As to your question, will your NS-ESA be backdated to when your SSP finished, NS-ESA can be backdated for up to 3 months before the date of your claim if you claim for that earlier period and would have met all the qualifying conditions during it. You will need to ask your doctor, or other healthcare professional, to confirm on the fit note that you were not fit for work during that earlier period.
