Hello there,
Is there such a thing as applying for a mandatory reconsideration on the duration of PIP Award?
Was awarded enhanced mobility for the Duration of under 3 yrs. Being ill all my life and factoring age - I'm not going to get any better by 2 or 3 yrs time.
Due to memory issues I completely forgot about an over a decade and a half ago diagnosis of: Transitional S1 Vertebrae. I discovered the diagnosis letter just yesterday and saw that I was on Etoricoxib 60mg a day back then, and it's the same medication I am on now and the same dosage. My pain management Dr put me on it few years ago, but I thought it was a new medication that ive never had it before.
Anyway, during my recent re-application and assessment for PIP, I didn't include this diagnosis letter at all.
So, I am wondering:
is there another route I can take to submit this evidence?
I didn't understand the diagnosis back then. But thanks to technology, I understand it now. I have always had terrible back and leg pains since I was little, and I learnt that Transitional S1 Vertebrae is Congenital. I have been suffering increasingly with nerve issues. My nerves have become more exposed. There's a degeneration that occurs with this spinal issues.
So, I guess what I want to say to PIP is that, given all of this, I'm not all of a sudden going to improve.
I don't have a problem with the descriptors that they have awarded me. Its just the overall duration - if the award can be extended a bit. Also during my recent assessment (3.5hrs it was) it affected my mental health conditions and I became suicidal. Im being seen at present for that and awaiting further support.
With this new PIP award, of which I am overwhelmly grateful for, I have about a year and a half before I have to go through another review. I can't go through again the mental crisis I just went through and still going through at present.
▪︎ Is there another route other than mandatory reconsideration?
▪︎ Is there a way to go about it that won't lead to them touching the descriptors?
(Im probably asking for the moon to be under water at this point😬😅).

There is not other way, but to put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration (even though the length of an award is not supposed to be covered by the process). You write a letter telling them that you are happy with the award, but you would like to challenge the length of the award and explain that you have a condition that is not going to improve and include letter you didn't have before.
It is pretty hard to get them to reconsider, but a couple of members have recently had success and had their awards extended by a couple of years. I'm afraid they are not generally moved by people having lifelong conditions. Awards in recent years have grown shorter for most people.
But it's certainly worth a go. Best of luck.
