Claiming UC, next payment blocked because I went below £6k savings.

I recently migrated voluntarily from CB ESA to UC plus NS ESA and HB, and it was seamless. This month however, my savings went below £6k and I reported this change, then my latest UC payment statement didn't show up. I asked about it in my journal and I got this reply:

"8th October 2025 at 2:41pm
Hi *******,

Your payment has been blocked as you need to attend the job centre to verify your capital.

I have reached out to your job centre in regards to have an appointment booked as soon as possible.

Thanks

Belfast Goodwood Service Centre"

I did hear somewhere about this, and it seems like the most awfully invasive overreach. I was in the process of buying a decent quality eBike as the DVLA have written me off from ever holding a vehicle licence, and I also needed new prescription specs and with my severe ADHD, I buy 2 pairs as back-up and this is where I find myself.

Please could someone explain what this means to have to attend the JC+, and quite what it means in DWP UC terms to, 'verify my capital'..?
To me, it sounds as sinister as it is vague.
Also, as the UC office is arranging this visit I just hope my advocate will be available to attend with me for support as I couldn't face it alone and I daresay that it's inadvisable for obvious reasons anyway.
Will this payment be backdated? How long could someone in this position be without funds? I'm so glad I've arranged to pay my council landlords myself while I've still got a few grand left to cover myself, because I have a nasty feeling this could all drag on some time with no HB into the bargain.
Would I get backdated UC so I don't lose those savings I'll have spent on rent and Council Tax? I forgot about the CT! I need help with filling out that CT Reduction form as well, so it's late since my UC claim was made so there's another large, monthly outgoing still going from my savings.

I feel like just getting 3 months worth of bank statements plus info about other accounts and turning up at the JC+ asap with said advocate, in the hope of speeding up the process. Would that help?

Thanks in advance.

Hi NorthernHeights

The DWP like to check the reason for a reduction in capital as they can in some circumstances apply notional capital procedures. When your bank statements have been reviewed then you should not lose out and your UC should be fully backdated.
It may be possible to be seen without an appointment at the Jobcentre though there would then be a wait but it is best to organise a meeting via your Journal.

Let me know how you get on.
