Medical appointment questions aligning with PIP questions was created by slowlysinking
Has anybody else noticed a parallel between the kinds of questions asked at medical appointments with the key areas covered on a PIP form?
I have recently attended two hospital appointments, one with a Consultant, the other with a specialist Nurse, and both times they asked about or talked around areas that are covered by the PIP award form. In the subsequent letters to myself and my GP, their assessment of these were recorded, e.g. EDSS scale; any particular difficulties experienced, any daily living and mobility aids used etc.
It makes me wonder if medical appointments are being used as an early unofficial assessment for PIP and other benefits claims... or has this always been the case? It has been several years since my last medical appointments so I don't recall what happened previously.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi slowlysinking
I seem to remember one other member raising the same issue. It will be interesting to see if anyone else has had the same experience.

The only thing i was asked by my consultant and dietitian was did I work. I can honestly say in all the years and all the different consultants I've gone through for my miriade of health conditions, I've never been asked relevant questions for pip ,because I'd definitely have picked up on that. Hmmmm very intriguing.

I have also suspected "Targeted Questions!!! Like you, I have an array of health conditions whereby I attend hospital appointments regularly, involving interactions with medical professionals. Since March 2025 ( I had to submit my PIP review form in March 2025) I have felt that I was asked loaded questions by all but 2 medical professionals, about my social interactions, hobbies, coping day to day with my main disability, my other disabilities, medication side effects, suicidal thoughts, the depression, the panic attacks, & anxiety. All things mentioned on my PIP review form. I'm not particularly paranoid, but I am rarely asked how I am or how I'm feeling by Consultants, nurses, physiotherapists etc Appointments have always been matter of fact, I'm an introvert and don't do "chit chat". I DO believe something is afoot, and there is a direct correlation between the DWP & the NHS (we all know they are pushing people who are sick or disabled to force us into work because we are all faking it). I had been waiting for a particular appointment for 7 months, this was written on my PIP review form which was returned on 12 March 2025. In the first week of April, I received an appointment letter for the long awaited Consultant appointment, for the following week!!! I don't believe in coincidences. I waited 6 months for my Award notice, finally receiving it at the end of September 2025. They mentioned in my review the Consultants report. How could they have known I had seen the Consultant? I know that I didn't tell them!!! My GP didn't even know I had had the appointment, he thought I was still waiting. The "thick plottens" as my Nana used to say!
