UC paid fortnightly was created by Michael
Hi I was wondering if anyone on here had asked if their universal credit can be paid fortnightly the same as ESA is paid. We are in the middle of migration and my partner who has multiple mental health issues and a cognitive impairment is really worried about being paid monthly because we are used to getting paid fortnightly this is causing her anxiety she doesn't like changing things especially around budgeting. I know you can request this but was wondering the best way to go about it thanks.

Hi Michael
Universal Credit is paid monthly. However, if it is identified that a claimant is finding it difficult to budget on a monthly basis, they can have their Universal Credit divided over the month so it is paid more frequently (for example, twice monthly or exceptionally, four times a month). These can only be paid at the end of their first assessment period and is in the majority of circumstances, half their Universal Credit award with the remaining half paid 14 or 15 days later. In very exceptional cases they could be paid four times a month. This would mean receiving a quarter of their Universal Credit payment after the end of the first assessment period and the rest paid at 7 or 8 day intervals. In cases where a claimant’s Universal Credit includes their housing costs, this would be accompanied by a Managed Payment to Landlord to protect their home.
I would send a Journal message with the recipient A Payment requesting the more frequent payment. He message will be routed to the Case Manager.
Let me know how you get on.

Hi Michael
Same boat here initially. Asked at Biographical chat phone call with JC+ case manager. The one thing he got right was getting the service centre to confirm in my journal they had set up my payments as fortnightly, as my IR ESA SG and HB were.
I'd call the helpline and ask them to prod the case manager to reply ASAP as the uncertainty is causing untold stress. They then have a max of 72 hours to reply
