Pip review was created by Julie
Hi, I went to Tribunal with Pip in 2021 and was awarded enhanced on both Daily Living and Mobility sections having previously scored a total of 4 points for both sections originally. I am also in the support group for ESA. My conditions are osteoarthritis in spine, neck and knees, erosive arthritis in hands, incontinence and anxiety. At tribunal I scored 16 points for daily living and 20 for mobility.

I have now had my first review pack (I was awarded for 5 years and award runs out in May 2026). My problem is that other than giving them copies of my prescription forms showing the amount of strong pain relief that I’m on, I have very little in way of medical evidence that I can give them. My GP just does my repeat prescriptions, I don’t go to physio as previously these sessions did not help me at all and just made my anxiety worse as I’m very nervous of going out and seeing anyone new, and my daughter cannot always be with me for appointments as she works full time. There will be medical records at my local a&e departments as I’ve had several falls and also sliced the top of my finger open trying to open a can but I don’t have any other evidence that I can give. I am very much a hermit, I stay indoors, don’t see people other than my children and grandchildren and just manage my condition myself with the pain relief given and lots of rest.
I’m very worried now that I’m going to have my Pip stopped due to lack of evidence.

Hi Julie

There are many claimants like you who have limited ongoing evidence when their PIP is renewed. You can only work with what you have. I know it isn't easy, but there's nothing to be gained by assuming that you will lose your PIP because of it and you will make yourself ill worrying about it. All you can do is make your best arguments.

You say that you don't have evidence - but I think you do (even though it may not seem immediately obvious. You have had 'several falls' and sliced the top off your finger. This could be used to show that you are not able to fulfill certain tasks, safely and repeatedly. Here is what it says on page 17 of the Guide to PIP Claims and Reviews benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip

• Safely – in a fashion that is unlikely to cause harm to themselves or to another person. (See the
‘Safety and supervision’ section immediately below for more on this).
• To a necessary and acceptable standard – given the nature of the activity.
• Repeatedly – as often as is reasonably required.
• In a reasonable time period no more than twice as long as a person without a physical or mental
health condition would take to carry out the activity.

That is just a snippet - have a look at that page and apply it to each of the questions with your difficulties.. Also see what they said at your Tribunal and make sure that you include that judgment in your evidence.

You have a daughter who supports you - get her to write a letter confirming the difficulties you have. It doesn't have ot be reams. One side of A4 will be plenty. (If there is anyone else who can write a letter, include it.)

You could keep a diary for a couple of weeks (though that may be too much) but it is a way of showing them what your life is like. There is a template you can use as a guide benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip

You've had physio in the past and you say what you have here - that it wasn't helpful.

You have evidence of not communicating with people outside of your family - you say you are a hermit.

Sometimes the evidence is just the truths you tell. Remember you are the expert in your conditions and the impact on your life. You have to tell them about it.

Come back if you have any specific questions, and we will try to help.
