ESA to UC migration was created by pingusolid
Hi,
I receive;
- ESA support group with SDP
- PIP high mob + care
- Housing benefit + communal room charge, (I pay bedroom tax) (supported housing)
- council Tax support.
I received the letter to migrate from ESA to UC in September so have until early december to apply.
The letter states 'you will stop getting the following benefits':
Housing Benefit
Income related ESA
I read somewhere that even if UC isn't claimed that Housing benefit will remain in payment if certain things apply like supported housing. I can't remember what else or where I read that. Will I need to ask the council for these details if I don't want to claim UC or miss the deadline ?
The less I have to deal with the council the better.

Hi pingusolid
You will need to ask your landlord if the accommodation has been declared by the Local Authority to be Specified Accommodation for the purposed of Housing Benefit. It is not enough to be sheltered to automatically confer eligibility for Housing Benefit instead of Universal Credit.
If you have not been told by your landlord if your accomodation is Specified and you can claim Housing Benefit then it is important that you don't tick the box on your UC claim that you live in Sheltered Accomodation as this will automatically terminate UC Housing Costs.
Remember that some Sheltered Accomodation is covered by UC and the rules can be complex.
Let me know how you get on.
