Housing benefits and transitional protection

Good morning,

Query on behalf of family.
Recently moved to UC - just got first payment 2 weeks ago.
full claim migration from ESA + SDP + HB.
Getting UC:
standard allowance + housing + LCWRA + Transitional protection.

Landlord has literally just emailed to say rent will be increased.
What I understand is that my HB will increase (as per LA rate, I will still be awarded this) but then because I'm now on UC I will lose the proportionate amount on transitional protection?

Is this true? If so, is there anything I can do to avoid losing that amount given I've only just moved over to UC? Had this happened a month ago, I would not be in this position I imagine...it's quite a significant amount too.

The increase isn't in the 30 days after claiming unless it's 30 days after first payment? Furthermore the increase isn't coming into force until Mid December if that makes a difference.

Hi Idean64

You are right in that an increase in the housing costs element of UC will lead to an equivalent decrease in your Transitional Protection. For this not to happen the change will need to be reported in your first UC Assessment Period. Most people receive the UC payment 7 days after the end of the AP unless that day is a weekend then the payment is advanced.

Let me know how you get on.
