Totally confused Too I’ll to work - work commitment agreement. was created by Patsy
Hello,
I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and realised I have had symptoms for three years now. I left work this year because I was so shocked at having this disease alongside CKD and others. I found it terribly hard to continue working in an office, typing, taking minutes sitting for periods of time etc. I have worked all my life and only claimed carers allowance when I looked after a family member. I can’t come to terms with having Parkinson’s, (I’m in my 50s) it seems unreal under the tremors start. Anyway, I was told I could claim new style esa and disability allowance (Scotland). The advice was from CAB.
I duly completed both applications online and I have a neurology appoint tomorrow afternoon followed by a call from the dWP to ask me to commit to a work agreement or something. at 59, and given various health issues, I had no intentions of working again, my job going forward is to concentrate on keeping Parkinson’s at bay for as long as possible and try and find new ways to live. Do I have to go for interviews or update CVS because I have an incurable progressive illness.
I am worried about this call as I have heard that the DWP try to trip you up so that they refuse you, if you don’t answer what they want to hear. Taking calls is stressful and my memory is soooo bad with the Parkinson’s, I’m sure I’ll forget or say the wrong thing. This DWP thing is more stressful that the neurology appointment. I don’t even know what I’m asking exactly, I just have no one else that can help or advise. Many thanks C

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Patsy
The DWP call is not to commit to a work agreement. It is to agree to a Claimant Commitment. Everybody claiming ESA has to do this and usually it is just an agreement to inform the DWP of any changes of circumstances. You will be sent a Health Questionnaire called a WCA50 and when you have completed this sometime in the future you will have a medical assessment called a WCA ( Work Capabilities Assessment). The DWP will pay you as long as they have a valid Sick Note ( medical certificate ).
You will not have to attend interviews or look for jobs.
