Late appeal was created by Nesta
What reasons are accepted for a late appeal? My son’s is a few weeks overdue due to his mental health issues. that the PIP is all about. He has also not had support from the professional that was supposed to be doing it but has been unable to assist him during the time since his refusal at mandatory reconsideration.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Nesta
The DWP usually accept explanations such as poor mental health - but it's decided on a case by case basis - so I can't give you a definitive answer.

Hi Nesta
I have done lots of late appeals, the latest was 12 months due to mental health issues, as BIS has pointed out, it is accepted on a case by case basis. If it is caused by mental health issues, explain the reason, I have never had one refused on mental health grounds, I have also used the excuse waiting for an appointment to see a Welfare Rights Organisation or waiting for a copy of the assessors report (PA4).
