ESA (contributions based award)

ESA Support group (contributions)
22 April 2022
PiP awards
Awarded 22/08/18
Std Living and Std mobility
Review 24 August 2022
Std Living and Enhanced mobility
Review 21 July 2025
Enhanced Living and Enh. mobility
UC award
03 May 2025 (UC paymt started)
There are few areas I am still not sure about:
1. It’s been suggested to me that apart from getting the Contributions based ESA in April 2022, I could also be entitled to receive the income related ESA at that same time Apr 2022; and that, it’s possible to be paid both income related and Contributions based ESA together.
2. since 2018 of PiP, because of overwhelming and debilitating health challenges, I didn’t make enquiries about the DP, SDP and EDP disability Premiums to know how to claim them especially, as no one is claiming carer allowance on my behalf.
Disability Premiums, Severe Disability Premiums and Enhanced Disability Premiums have been mentioned to me suggesting I can claim them back.
It’s been suggested to me that
arrears should be paid from the date of the PIP Daily Living Award which is 22/08/18.
also that The EDP, payment should be backdated to the date of SG award (22 April 2022 Contr. ESA).
Could I possibly claim-back the income-related ESA in line with the original ESA claim made on 13 Apr 2022 in order to get my EDP as per the SG award of 22/04/22 or can I get the EDP on my current PiP enhanced of 21/07/25.
and
Who should I contact? and
What Forms do I need to complete for the Disability Premiums etc claims.
Thanking you in advance for your guidance and feedback

Replied by Jasmine on topic pip enhanced mobility and care since 2018. never claimed my Disability premiums
Hi Max,
Thank you for your post.
The Severe Disability Premium (SDP) and Enhanced Disability Premium (EDP) are income related premiums which may be included in a claim for ESA if a claimant is eligible.
Due to the roll out of Universal Credit around 2017/2018, new claims of ESA will usually not have been eligible for an income related top up of the EDP and SDP premiums, however this varies depending on when Universal Credit was rolled out in your area. You can read more about this here in our article - www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/news/cb-esa-aw...-esa-from-1-december
From 1st December 2025, all contribution based ESA claims were turned into new style ESA claims, meaning income related premiums could no longer be added.
To find out about your specific claim, you could call the ESA helpline on 0800 169 0310 (Monday to Friday from 8am-5pm).
For further advice on whether you should have been entitled to income related premiums on ESA, you could contact Citizens Advice. You can find your local Citizens Advice office here - www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/nearby/
Kind regards
Jasmine
