ESA Migration to UC was created by Tigerlily11
Hi,

I have just moved over to Universal Credit. I was getting Contribution Based ESA and Income related ESA. My husband was added to my ESA claim a few years back. I got a Carer’s Premium added to our ESA. This is where I am having problems after I migrated over to UC. I was told I had to ring Carer’s Allowance to get an end date as it showed I was getting £0.00 Carer’s Allowance. I did this but then a lady from Citizens Advice said they should not have told me to do this before they made up my UC award as this now interferes with my Transitional Protection which in our Migration letter says we will get. She said my Carer’s Premium of £46.40 a week will now not be included in my final UC award.
I am really struggling trying to get this sorted and would be very grateful for any help or advice, thank you.

Hi Jessica

Why were you not getting payments of Carer's Allowance? Was it because one of you gets the State Pension.
Under normal circumstances the Transitional Protection is reduced if there is a change of circs. leading to an increase in the UC award.
Can you not go back to the lady from Citizens Advice who will be familiar with your Benefits situation and ask if this counts as DWP official error ?
