DLA to PIP Telephone Call? was created by Mazzystarlett
I’m my son’s appointee as he has just turned 16 this month. His DLA award was until 2027 but we’ve already had a letter to say if we need to call them and tell them whether we are applying for PIP or not and if we don’t call them his claim will end in February. They want my son to be present for the phone call but I’m not sure he will want to speak or he won’t tell the truth, which might be tricky.
Has anyone else had this phone call? Is it the similar to a PIP assessment call or is it just checking basic details before they send a form out?

Hi Mazzystarlett

This is a typical bullying tactic of the DWP. You are his appointee and speak on his behalf. They have no need to speak to him at all. They then often say "it's a safeguarding issue," but when you challenge it, they quickly backdown. I can't tell you what they want at that appointment - ring them and ask, because you don't want any nasty surprises. It shouldn't be any sort of assessment, but if it is, then you should handle it, and you also need to know beforehand. If you want your son to confirm who he is and that he is happy for you to speak, make sure you then don't let them pull him into a further conversation. Never, ever trust the tactics of the DWP. If you can, I would always advise you to record the conversation.
