Hello,
Using this excellent community for a few years and im very grateful for you all, however, first time posting.

After a life changing accident at work and over 20 surgeries i was left unable to work.
I was in support group ESA then migrated to UC and placed in LCW group, where i languished for quite some time despite my requesting asessment frequently.

Around 2 years ago i was sent the then UC50 which i returned (with guidence from this wonderful platform)
I had quite literally put it to the back of my mind until late last year, some 22 months later i had a WCA.
2 weeks later i received the decision...
Awarded LCWRA.

I only had a journal note with no facility to print off (for my records) despite being told i would be able to.
I telephoned 2 weeks ago to ask what the effective date of the award was because it had been so long and was told id get a message in journal.... Still waiting.
I then sent a journal note asking the same question and was told essentially "relevant info an be printed off within the decision note". Ive yet to find it.

So.... ive no idea of the effective date of the change (LCWRA award) and as i understand it because i was on LCW before and not required to send fit notes. My award wont be back dated. Despite my reporting health changes via journal. My first 2 monthly payments have arrived reflecting the new LCWRA award.

To be honest the fact it wont be backdated isn't an issue as the overwhelming relief of the decision is a huge weight off as im sure many will empathise with and more than makes up for it.
I went out to work one day and my life changed in an instant and i struggled to accept my new normal for some time.
The whole process along with the media coverage of "work shy scroungers" and associated stigma as well as the UC50 format, questions and trip wires all mount in the back of your mind and take their toll. I understand DWP have a job to do and from chats with my wonderful health support work coach i know they work incredibley hard. That said, the sytems in place seems unduly cruel and designed in such a way as to make you question your own mind.

Thank you benefits and work for your continued efforts in guiding genuine people with genuine needs through what can at times be a cruel and dehumanising process.

Happy new year

Hi Mork

I'm sorry to hear about your life-changing conditions. I can only imagine what it's like when it happens in an instant. Absolutely devastating.

I know it's difficult, but with all you have to deal with, try to shut out the noise from politicians, social media, etc. They don't know you, and you know that you're not a scrounger, and that's all that matters. Don't let complete strangers play with your mind and your sense of self. In reality, they have no importance to who you are and your circumstances. Dealing with the system itself is hard enough without the added noise of ignorant and often biased politicians and keyboard warriors.

I'm glad you are now in the right group.

Happy New Year to you too!
