ESA confusion was created by Emma
Hi all 😊, so I'm confused about my ESA.
I have been migrated across to uc about a year or so ago.
I was getting ESA before migration, in support group, so I went into LCWWRA group.
I was also in receipt of contribution based ESA.
UC said they deduct 600 or so pounds off of my UC due to my getting ESA, which makes sense because that's the amount I get in ESA payments (about 150 a week).
What's throwing me off, is in the letter regarding ESA rate increases, it states that I will continue to receive the esa, but they cannot pay me 'income related ESA' because I have a claim for UC.
So it seems one amount is being deducted from my UC, and also they cannot pay me income related because I am on UC now.
Doesn't this mean both types of ESA have been adapted for my uc, or is this to do with new style ESA?
I really hope I have managed to make this make sense because I'm lost 😖.
I'm currently trying to book citizens Advice appointment for support with a PIP appeal, but two days in a row on hold for an hour and then cut off, so no hope of asking them either!
Thank you in advance for any information,
Emma

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
Replied by David on topic ESA confusion
Hi Emma
The letter you received is computer generated and is sent to everyone. ESA letters are notorious for being inaccurate and badly worded. So I would ignore it. If you are still worried you could phone the ESA section. The best time to do this is 10 until 12 and 2 until 3.
