Hi there
I was moved over from ESA to UC around 7 months ago. So, the whole UC method of doing things is still a learning process for me. My social housing landlord increased my rent annually, to taken effect from 30th March 2026. The increase letter also advised that this was the date to inform UC of a 'change of circumstances'. I duly did this - and it has been registered, as I can see from my UC statement the new rent amount. However, there has been. no increase in my total payment. It is exactly the same as last month. Is this normal - should I expect the difference to be made up next month?
I have not been asked to provide a letter of evidence of this rent increase. However, on 1st April I received a 'to do' from UC to confirm 'annual increase in housing costs'. Although I did complete this - it registered as 'no change' because I had already sent a message (on 30 March) to notify UC of the rent increase from 30 March.
I'm just really confused about it all.

Usually social landlord rent risers are better accommodated in UC than private tenant rent rises. This is because UC and social landlords share information via the UC Landlord portal.
What has happened to you appears to be intentional though. The previous Tory governments designed UC to give claimants less Benefits in the long run so it has built in cost savings. One of these being when rents go up your Transitional Protection goes down. So as you say your total UC payment is the same even though you now have to pay more rent.
