Claiming Carers Allowance for each other - both on Enhanced PIP

Hi,

I'm intending to claim my work pension in the near future, which means I will have to come off UC, but may retain some of my Contribution based ESA (im getting Support level ESA).

As UC currently pays the rent on my council flat in London, I will have to give my flat up as the rent will need to come out of my work pension, which will leave me on considerably less money than I get on UC.

I have the option of moving into my partners house (who owns the house) which I am likely to do.

As we are both on Enhanced rates for PIP (both mobility and daily living), we are thinking of both (separately) applying for Carers Allowance for each other. Neither of us are working (and both under 65) and our only income is from work pensions and PIP.

As the only money that can affect eligibility for Carers Allowance is money from working, I know we are both eligible to claim.

I would appreciate any advice on what else we would need to consider, from anyone who has knowledge and /or experience of this.

Many thanks.

Hi Jon

Yes that is possible if you are both individually caring for 35 hours per week.
If your partner pays Council Tax then the Single Person Allowance will be lost.
