PIP and respite was created by fiona
I am supporting the mom of a young man who has recently decided staying in specialised education is not for him and is therefore remining at home with a care package aimed at progressing him, at some point, to independent living. As part of this plan, he will be receiving respite every weekend. He will have respite for 3 days (2 nights) every weekend. He ahs recently applied for UC and receives E rate of PIP (both components). His mom receives CA for him. The question is will this type of respite impact his benefits (PIP) at all. I am aware of the linking rule for respite but am not sure that, in these circumstances ie that is part of a care package to which he will be contributing) if those same rules apply. Obviously, if he loses his PIP then his mom will lose the CA and they will all be at home the majority of the time. I would be most grateful if you could provide any further advice on this issue or point me in the right direction.

Hi Fiona

Your question is outside the remit of the forum, but I happened to have this information from someone who has knowledge of this field, but I can't answer any queries you may have about it and you need to find your own expert.

PIP is not lost (but it will be assessed as income for the client contribution to the local authority)

Carer’s allowance is still payable, provided his mom still does at least 35 hours of care in the week, and under the earnings limit.

Details of the assessment can be found here.
