Hi,
I wonder if you can help me.
I am supporting the mom of a young man who has recently decided staying in specialised education is not for him and is therefore remining at home with a care package aimed at progressing him, at some point, to independent living. As part of this plan, he will be receiving respite every weekend. He will have respite for 3 days (2 nights) every weekend.
He has recently applied for UC and receives E rate of PIP (both components). His mom receives CA for him. The question is will this type of respite impact his benefits (PIP) at all. I am aware of the linking rule for respite but am not sure that, in these circumstances (ie that is part of a care package to which he will be contributing) if those same rules apply. Obviously, if he loses his PIP then his mom will lose the CA and they will all be at home the majority of the time.
I would be most grateful if you could provide any further advice on this issue or point me in the right direction.

I am confused by your understanding of the term " respite ". This is the definition of respite :-
"What is respite care?
Respite care is the term used for services that enable you to take a break from caring by temporarily caring for the person you usually care for. It's important to take a break from caring if you need one – it doesn’t mean you’re letting down the person you look after, and could help you care for them better, for longer."
So I don't understand why a PIP recipient would lose PIP in the circumstances you describe.
