Hello
Sorry in advance for the long winded post.
I migrated from ESA to NSESA and UC in June 2025.
I only receive a small amount of UC along with my NSESA. When I first migrated I received £91 a month UC. This then reduced to £81 due to a £10 deduction from Debt Management for an overpayment which I had previously been paying off before migration and am continuing to pay off.
I also receive an occupational pension which is deducted in full from UC (I think?? or maybe it's from NSESA and then included in my NSESA deduction??) . My pension increases twice a year in April and then again slightly in May.
I informed UC and NSESA that my pension had in increased on the 15th April this year, this then brought my UC down to £69.25. I have just informed them that my pension has further increased (by £2.38 a month). Along with the benefit rate increase this has now reduced by UC to £43.69 a month.
So my UC has effectively halved in under a year. Taking this into account, the same increases will occur next April/May which would reduce my UC to zero.
My questions are as follows:
1. If I am no longer entitled to UC will I still be entitled to LCWRA if I am only receiving NSESA?
2. Will I lose my transitional protection if my UC reduces to zero?
3. Will Debt Management be able to deduct my £10 overpayment from my NSESA.
Apologies again for the lengthy post, I have searched for the answer in the Guides etc. and also googled but I am struggling to find an answer. It's rather worrying as if I lose my UC then I will also lose any "passported" entitlement e.g. free NHS Dental care. My teeth are in very bad condition due to a combination of medication and chemotherapy and my dentist has informed me that I will require an extensive amount of work in the future.
Thanks in Advance

Hi soulgal
To answer your questions :-
1. If I am no longer entitled to UC will I still be entitled to LCWRA if I am only receiving NSESA?
If your UC is zero then you will not receive the payment of the LCWRA element but you will still be paid NS ESA.
2. Will I lose my transitional protection if my UC reduces to zero?
If your UC claim is closed then you will lose your Transitional Protection.
3. Will Debt Management be able to deduct my £10 overpayment from my NSESA.
Yes they can deduct from contributions based Benefits.
