ESA Success was created by Siobhan
Hi. I'm a support worker working with ex-offenders with a variety of needs, many of whom should be entitled to ESA. In the last fortnight, I have learnt that one of my clients, who has Aspergers and learning difficulties, has been put in the Support Group following his medical assessment. Benefits and Work guides were very helpful in helping my client prepare for the medical, and so clearly worded and set-out that I was easily able to help him grasp the types of problems he has which he needed to convey to the assessor.
Yesterday I attended an ESA tribunal with another client with multiple physical health issues (awarded 6 points at his medical as he was completely unaware of what was being asked of him and is used to just getting on with things - he had not asked for support with the medical as assumed that it would be fairly straighforward). We had spent a fair bit of time preparing for the tribunal, including writing a brief case summary as suggested in the ESA Appeals guide. As it turns out, we were in and out in 5 minutes, and after a few questions we were informed that my client had won his appeal and is now in the support group! (The judges also complimented us on the format of the case summary - lifted entirely from the B&W guide!)
Many thanks for the help provided in your guides - it is gratifying to be able to help vulnerable people secure the income to which they are entitled.

Hi Siobhan,

I've only just spotted your post and I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to provide such positive feedback. We don't often hear from people who use the guides professionally, so it's doubly welcome.

Good luck in your work.

Steve
