ESA / working tax credit impact? was created by Wendyinfp
Hi there,

I've finally had to face facts about my ability to sustain working (I am self employed)and I am exploring the possibility of making an ESA claim. However, at the moment we receive a helpfiul level of working tax credit. Does anyone know if ESA will impact WTC, and if so, how?

Thanks.

Hi Wendy

We don't cover WTC and it would be worth getting face-to-face advice on this.

However there is a thread on this subject:

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/forum?func=view&catid=10&id=29937

Don't know if this one is relevant to your circumstances:

Hope this is of some help

Derek

Hi Wendy

I'm not sure about the self employment bit.

If you claim ESA you can't claim WTC. There is a run on period of 4 weeks when you change to ESA

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but when Googling re WTC & ESA, this came at the top.

I'm not sure if Dave is correct as according to the HMRC site, you can claim WTC for upto 28 weeks if off sick (certain conditions apply).

I'm also self-employed but sick to work, thus am in the process of claiming ESA (Income related). Under Part 15 of the ESA1 form, they ask about other incomes (including WTC). So I'm assuming that both benefits shouldn't clash (as long as you aren't off sick for more than 28 weeks if on WTC).
