I am currently receiving IB for alcoholism (although my atos medical report says severe mental illness). When the WCA comes up I have read that supporting medical evidence is very important. My problem is that I don't really know who to go for for this. I rarely see my doctor now that I don't have to get sick notes (thank god. I hated having to go and beg sick notes from sceptical doctors). I have had involvement with many rehab, detox and cbt workers. also councillors and phsycaitrists over the years but not for some time and I don't even know if they'll remember me. Any ideas.

cheers

Many members with long term disabilities or ilnesses are struggling to provide up to date medical evidence.

The first thing to say, is that as you are already in receipt of an incapacity benefit, the burden of proof lies with the DWP to prove you no longer qualify.

That said, any evidence you can supply will assist your case. You can ask for a copy of your medical notes from your GP surgery, this should include any letters from your previous councillors and psychiatrists.

It can't hurt for you to see your GP to see whether they feel there are any new treatment options available to you, even if there are not, this is still something you can include as a statement.

Have a look at the ESA guides, as they also discuss the topic of evidence.

Hopefully some of the other B&W members will have some suggestions as well.
