Welfare reform bill - does this mean no hope? was created by Melanie Tudor
I just read the frequently asked questions section, and noticed that in the section on the Welfare Reform Bill and ESA being stopped after 365 days, Gordon wrote:
The change comes into effect from 6th April 2012 and will apply immediately to any ESA claimant who has been in the WRAG for 365 days or more on this date.
Have I missed something? Does this mean that the bill has gone through the House of Lords? I thought the process was going till last till the end of the year. This statement sounds like it is definitely going to happen? I thought there was still a glimmer of hope?

Hi M,
It has not been passed as law yet and is at the committee stage in The Lords, progress can be followed here. :

Hi Mel, if you mean, will the Bill be passed, then yes it will.
The date is not exact but probable.
There may be a few ammendments to the bill but this usually means
insert 'and' here and 'however' there.
It doesn't mean 'scrap this part of the Bill'.
Yes it is depressing....

This has really depressed me, but what can we do? My husband is on minimum wage and works more than 24 hours a week and we have £5000 savings for a rainy day, so we are basically stuffed...............

I'm on IR ESA but I am keeping everything crossed for those on CB ESA that the one big ammendment they make is to increase the 1 year rule.
Best wishes,

Me and my husband are both in our late forties and my husband has an unemployed daughter, and these savings are all that we have, saved up over years. I have not looked at any topics on here relating to DLA because I assumed that was safe. Is the DLA going too, for anyone who has a partner working, or limited savings?
