Does ESA affect DLA?

Hello everyone, my daughter currently receives DLA (high level for care) and Income Support.
She has just been notified that she needs to be assessed for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
Will the ESA outcome affect her DLA entitlement or is it only related to the Income Support benefit she receives?

Hi,

ESA will replace Income Support if it is paid on the grounds of disability/incapacity to work.

ESA and DLA are separate benefits, paid for differing reasons, albeit there is a degree of overlap between the two.

What does sometimes occur is on a DLA renewal the DWP may refer to an ESA medical and vice versa, however whether it will happen in an individual case is impossible to ascertain.

And on some occasions, the claimant might, if the findings of an ESA or DLA medical are helpful, choose to use the one medical report to support their own claim or appeal to the other benefit. Despite the different criteria, the findings occasionally are helpful to establishing entitlement to the other benefit.
