What happens after ESA medical? was created by Lyn
I have been on IB since finishing work in July 2001, after losing my hearing in my left ear and suffering from acute vertigo.
In addition to this I now have osteoarthritis and suffer with depression.

I received the ESA50 form, which had to be returned by 23rd November, at the beginning of December I received a call from ATOS to arrange a medical, which is at the end of December.

What happens if I am unfortunate enough not to be transferred to ESA, I know I can appeal, but do I get any money in the meantime?

Hi L,

If you do not get an award of ESA, and are found "fit for work", and you decide to appeal and submit a GL24 within the 1 month deadline, and also gain a "fit note" from your G.P., you should be entitled to the Assessment Rate of ESA.

This would be paid to you, either until the adverse decision was changed at the automatic reconsideration stage, or if not then, right up until the time of the Tribunal decision.

It may help if you read all the relevant sections on "Appeals" and ESA in our FAQ's here :
