council tax was created by jack2121
Hi, My 19 yr old son has just started work on minimum wage, 40 hr week. I am on income support & carers allowance as i look after my wife who is on DLA - HRC, LRM, She is also on incapacity benefit. Because my son has started work are we now liable to pay either council tax or rent. (council property). I have not as yet contacted either ,just wish for some advice on this please. Best wishes to everybody. Thank you.

Hi,

Council Tax is not a benefit that we deal with, as we don't provide a guide on it the members only asrea.

We cannot give reliable advice on benefits such as Council Tax or Housing Benefit, as it would involve you having to give us detailed information on your income, savings and other sensitive/ private information in a public forum.

Try this Directgov fact sheet Council Tax

Your own local authority should have a booklet on Council Tax, including information about CTB and Council Tax Disabled Persons reductions for those in receipt of DLA.

Good luck.

Jim

Dare say you might find out out using calculators on benefits sites on the net, and/or seeing a benefits advisor as other things come into the equation concerning personal circumstances so I doubt any mods could or would try to give you any definitive answers to your question ...

Hi Jack,

No problem, it's not one of the benefits that we deal with. I personally know nothing about it, and I'm not sure if any of our moderators are 'au fait' with it either as we specialise in benefits for the sick, such as IB/ESA and DLA for those disabled.

However, members with knowledge of Council Tax are free to post if they have experience of it, or indeed of any other benefit that's not in our FAQ section.

Happy New Year

Jim
