Must one report leaving the country? was created by cmarie510
Hello to Everyone and Happy New Year as well as a big thank you for all the
help I have received here.

My mother has Alzheimer's and has had surgery last week which was not successful
and surgery tomorrow to hopefully repair her lumbar spine which is soft and "crumbling" which is making the fusion they hoped to perform difficult if not impossible.

My mother is in San Francisco. I DO NOT WANT TO FLY as this will be an exercise in torture for me. I flew to be with her 4 years ago and that was a horrible journey.

As I now am in receipt of DLA, Housing Benefit and ESA (currently appealing - from
Oct.2011) -

1. I wonder do I have to report my leaving for 6 days??
2. Where do I report this to?

I am torn up over her condition and do feel my family is not telling me how bad she
is for obvious reasons, that's why I feel I must go.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Kindest regards,
cmarie

Michael,

Thank you for that link. It addresses those in receipt of DLA and IB. Unfortunately it does not mention ESA.

I do think I should call the DWP, I'm just afraid a call will not be documented in any way. If I am advised correctly, good for me; if I am advised incorrectly bad for me.

I did read all the literature regarding ESA that was sent to me with the award letter. There is NO mention of short/family related travel. Or travel at all.

Any last thoughts. If you do not come back to me, I will assume that you have given me all the advice you are aware of.

Many thanks
cmarie

Hi cmarie

For ESA (and JSA) you are required to inform the DWP about going away even if you spend just one night away from home!

Sorry, i may sound a bit silly here, does one have to inform DWP even if they have spent night at relatives place???

The reason i ask, is that sometimes my friend stays with her mother when her family cannot cope with her fabro, and they all, including my friend needs a break!!!!

Her mother lives nearby.

She is in the S/G.

Mant Thanks.

Radhika.
