I have been receiving contribution based Incapacity Benefit for 7 years. I have failed my ESA assessment, don't wish to appeal, and am considering claiming 'contribution based' JSA.
Will the National Insurance credits I have accrued whilst claiming I.B entitle me to do so(assuming that I meet the other criteria ? Or do only credits gained whilst in employment count ?

I am pretty sure that the NI credits you were getting whilst on IB count towards your pension but not any other contributary benefit.

There are two Contribution tests for JSA, much the same as ESA.

The first Condition is based on your NI Contributions, these can only aquired through employment or registered self-employment.

The second Condition is based on your NI Contributions and/or NI Credits.

There may be other ways of satisfying the first Condition, but you'll need to get face to face advice to see whether you qualify.

JSA(CB) is usually only payable for six months
