Insist that your medical be recorded! was created by johnlyn
Hi all, this isn’t a question but a bit of a rant based on my experiences, and if the moderators don’t post it I will understand. Well here goes:
Like most of us on this forum I joined after I got the letter from the DWP informing me that I would need to be reassessed if I was to continue to get state support. Got the form and filled it in, and stupidly thought I would qualify for the support group as I clearly feel that the conditions I suffer from warranted that. Like most of us I was so wrong. You have the medical, tell you side of the story and then find that the HCP has not listened to you but has been listened to an imaginary voice! This is what happened to me and it seems to me from reading your posts that many of these HCP’s have done the same to you! I recorded my medical secretly and the HCP certainly added critical phrases that were never mentioned during the medical. That is why I suggest that everyone demands that the medical be recorded. It’s too important to the claimant for this medical be left to be interpreted and manipulated by these people. Get it recorded and then the medics might be reluctant to put words in your mouth. I think this might result in fewer appeals (which are a great concern to the government) as they might get it right first time, because their success rate isn’t that good. It should come as no surprise to us claimants that we win so many appeals it’s because “we are unfit to work”. I don’t know the legalities of everyone having the medical recorded but their reply that they can’t record because the machine is broken shouldn’t be accepted. If I go through the system again I will definitely insist on a recording. If they will not let you record you medical, record it yourself. I bought a simple USB recorder for about £10; although this won’t resolve the putting “words in your mouth” at least you can listen to the recording and appeal accordingly.

Although this thread is not a benefits question, on this occasion an exception will be made and it will be allowed to stand. However, the thread will be locked to prevent a benefits discussion arising from what is an essentially contentious subject matter at the present time.
