Private Pension and ESA Payments was created by davew
Hi Guys

Could anyone help with advice regarding my private pension.
I am 59 years old and have been placed in the ESA support group.
I am due to take a private pension in April 2013.
If I take the pension will I lose my ESA payments.
Any help would be very much appreciated

Thanks.

If your private pension is more than £85.00 per week you will lose 50p in every pound that your pension is over from your ESA i.e if your private pension is £100 per week, £85.00 will be discounted and the remaining £15.00 will result in a reduction of £7.50 per week. Hope thats not to confusing, I think the only exception to this is if you were receiving IB prior to 2001. I am sure the brilliant mods will correct me if I have misunderstood the rules

Hi dw,

Will my pension be disregarded under ESA?

Pension payments :

For contribution based ESA the rules relating to pensions are very similar to incapacity benefit. ESA may be reduced where you receive payments over £85 a week. However, for ESA there is no exception for people in receipt of higher rate DLA care component.

It will also matter whether you are in receipt of Contributary ESA in the Support Group, or Income Related ESA in the Support Group.

I would strongly advise you to take professional face to face advice before making a decision.
