Claiming DLA on Mental Health Grounds was created by julie daglish
Hi every one out there.
I have quite bad mental health problems,Post Traumatic Stress, Severe anxiety, depression & Social Phobia and have basically managed my illness over the last ten years with family and a mental health team I can trust. I hardly ever go out and never travel.I can not cope with any stress at all. I tried to claim ten years ago but could not go through with it.
I have just put in a claim for DLA, but fear a face to face appeal, I just could not go and do not know how i would cope in a room with strangers.
Has anyone any experience in this field
Thankyou so much
Baby Jet

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Welcome to the forum, have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.
Welcome to Benefits and Work
We have lots of members who have successfully claimed DLA because of their mental health problems. Have a look at our DLA claim guide on the following link.
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/dla/#dlaclaims
These explain how to explain your disabilities in the context of the DLA benefit. You might also want to have a look at our DLA related FAqs

Hi Baby jet, I also have mental health problems including social phobia and depression. I am on high rate care/low rate mobility for DLA - never had to attend a face to face and been given awards initially for two years, and then three. good luck
