Appeal backlog waiting times. was created by sunbeam75
Hi,
On reading through the faq`s re appeals I see that the average waiting times from submission of an appeal to a hearing is 31.4 weeks, I submitted my appeal docs on 12th April this year and have heard nothing else since apart from a bundle I requested under an SAR.
My concern is that it also mention in the same faq that this time span of 31.4 weeks also includes an average of 7.2 weeks for a reconsideration to be carried out, this would mean that this would be approx end of May early June. I have not heard anything from DWP re this reconsideration, they do not reply to any letters sent to them even though I send everything recorded delivery. It would now seem that I will have surpassed the 31.4 weeks by now as well, I know these are averages and should be treated as such, in members experience is there a big gap bteween these averages and reality.

I am still waiting for the result of a recon associated with the ESA appeal I submitted in April.

Unfortunately the statistics in the FAQ are somewhat out of date, the information is difficult to find in the public domain.
My impression is that Appeal times have lengthened but only slightly, however, there is much more variance between areas than previously. There is an article in the Spotlight area at the top of the forum with more up to date regional figures.
Reconsideration times have extended considerably, and are probably averaging at least 3 month in most areas, with some members, fortunately only a few at the moment, waiting 5-6 months. I expect that these times will only increase, as the DWP have been reducing staffing levels, rather than increasing them to cover the extra load resulting from the IB/IS/SDA transfer.

Hi
I submitted appeal docs on 15 February - we have recently just got a date of 25 September for the hearing - I guess the backlog is getting longer. One thing I wanted to say though was our WRO sent further info with med report to DWP - over 4 weeks ago now but nothing back from the tribunal - so just to make sure they got it - I sent it direct to the tribunal and they have now acknowledged it. I am not sure the DWP forwards everything to the tribunal as they should? best to keep an eye on things in my opinion.

Like others I appealed in the middle of April (hoping to move from WRAG to Support Group) and apart from a letter saying they had recieved the appeal nothing. Even with my MP contacting them nothing has happened. He was just told by his contact at the DWP that there was a large backlog. Maybe they are hoping we will all give up and go away!!!!!

I was notified in May that I was being transferred from IB to WRAG, sent in an appeal for support group & heard nothing. I did send it recorded so knew it was delivered & didn't chase up because I was aware there was a back log but started to become a little concerned that I didn't even have an acknowledgement, so I phoned them this week. First of all I was told (very quickly, almost in tandem with hello) that I had failed to send in sick/fit notes, said I had been on IB for years & he quickly responded with " ..it's taking up to 6 mths, thank you, bye.." So, at least I know they DO have the appeal, what they are doing with it seems to be anyone's guess.
