Atos healthcare questionnaire completed by GP's 7 years 6 months ago #98242

  • aileenr
My partner had two strokes and a heart attack several years ago and as several problems both mental health and physical activity. Recently his GP when completing the questionnaire for ATOS at Question 4 refering to activities he put one reply covering all categories "Details not know to me" when i challenged him he said that as he does see him in everyday life he has to make that statement - I was gobsmacked to say the least. Anyone else experienced this? Obviously I think this has affected him being put in WRAG and not support.

Hi do not know if this is of any help to you, sincerely hope that it is, with regards to the difficulties you note about your husband and the doctor's inadequate response when asked by ATOS. To tackle this issue personally, I made a point of writing a comprehensive list of all my symptoms, the affects my illness and the symptoms have on my life on a daily basis, all my disability aids and problems, I gave this to my specialists and my GP, and in particular my GP, when asked uses this information which I update when required, in your husband's case, his GP would not have any excuse for not knowing in future. hope this helps

regards

Pete

Unfortunately this is becoming a common experience, for what ever reason many GPs are not providing the level of support that their patients might expect of them in regard to benefits, however, it is also incumbent on the claimant to ensure that there GP is kept up to date on how their condition(s) impact on them.

With regard the comment made on what I assume was an ESA113. if he has any other healthcare providers, you could ask them to comment, or if friends and family see him regularly they could write a tesimonial. In terms of the GP themself, you can make a complaint to the Practice Manager, but be aware these problems are often not limited to a single GP in the practice.
