inheritance £25000+ esa?

hi,

I hope someone can help me as I am about to receive about £25000 in inheritance from my father, but I am on esa, will this affect how much I am getting at the moment? I guess my esa will decrease because off this? I think I remember reading some where that you can have £16000 before this will affect my benefit? I am on contribution based esa and I am also receiving both council tax and rent benefit.

I live in Scotland by the way.

If you are on contributary ESA then this will have no affect on your payments. If were are on income-related ESA this amount of money would mean that you are no longer entitled to payments. You should take advice as to whether this will affect your other benefits.

Although it may not effect your CB ESA, it will probably effect you HB and CTB, as I believe that the upper savings limit for these is £16,000.

To be on the safe side, I would inform all departments from which you receive any form of benefits from.

i.e. The LA administering your HB and CTB and The Benfits Office that deals with your ESA, etc, etc.
