IB to ESA (CB or IR)? was created by lobsterpot

Hi Guy's

I have just been migrated from IB to ESA (CB) along with my award letter JCP sent a claim form for SEA Income Related?

My current situation is I receive Ill Health Retirement Pension £150 net p/w in payment from before 2001 ESA £110 p/w and DLA £72 p/w.

The question is would I still be entitled to ESA Income Related or not?

I have not sent the forms back yet :whistle:

I am afraid that I would expect your pension to be taken as income and deducted £ for £ from any ESA(IR) award, however, you should get face to face advice from advisor who can sit down with you and go through all of your finances with you. See

Hi Gordon,

If I was to go ahead with the request to look at my award (ESA Cont Based) in Support Group could they change their decision regarding the ESA award and the Support Group I was placed in?

I cannot see any reason why it should, but I would still recommend you get advice regarding this matter, before proceeding.

Nobby, was your pension disregarded when you were on IB? If so, it should also be disregarded for contributary ESA. However, for people with newer claims, private pensions are taken into account even for contributary ESA

Will my pension be disregarded under ESA?

As Gordon has said, it will certainly be counted when assessing your for income-related ESA.

Hi Mrs Hurtyback,

It was disregarded by the DWP because it was in payment before 2001 in actual fact it was in payment late 1999.

So I still do not know what to do for the best, however I think I might have a Benefits Advisor phoning from the CAB.
