Having mentioned this once before I now discover that The Local Main Mental Hospital records are totally missing/lost/destroyed from over 20 years ago.
First it was the DHSS employment records now after application I am told by a Major County Mental Hospital that "anything over 20 years ago"is absolutely unobtainable even the dates of stay.
During that stay there were numerous interviews and assessments with senior psychiatrists, numerous drugs administered and social work input and much other analysis
besides but according to them not a jot remains 'obtainable.'I mean obtainable its not that they are just withholding without saying so as they are entitled to do in ceratin kinds of sensitive information.
To my mind this is absolutely incredible!
However I am glad to report that a large well known Public Library that has barred me does have records back to the 1990s and I did get a letter from the Mental Home found in my GPs notes.
GP notes seem to be much better often going back to birth but are not foolproof.
How can Officialdom be so irresponsible as to destroy vital records afetr only 20 years?
I am beginning to wonder if The DWP keeps the records of claims back to the 1980s and 1990s now??
It must require a lot of storage and I suspect the awnser is probably in abbreviated form.
If at all.
On a completely different question:
In your sample ES3 form it refers to a passport stamp that reads"Must not have recourse to public funds"
This puzzled me,does anyone know who would likley to get this stamped in their passport and why please?
Just wondered.

I believe the DWP policy for physical records is 14 months.

The stamp you refer to may be stamped on some immigrants passports.

Hi James and Gordon,

I have gathered a sizeable batch of records from different parts of the country but one set, dating from 1980-81, has been destroyed. The letter informing me reads, “ Records are kept until 20 years from discharge.” My records have been “destroyed in accordance with the Department of Health guidelines.” Fortunately, these records are not crucial…but they might have been! I have other records of similar vintage- to archive or destroy appears to be the decision of individual Trusts.

Tip: secure copies of all your records for the future.
