Hi all

This will probably sound a stupid question and not really an ESA question, which I already suspect the answer is no too but I said I would ask anyway to put other family members at ease.

I live in a family house so doesn't belong to me and everyone has there own areas so everyone has there own space and privacy, got my grandmother living here as she is 91 and had a TIA a couple of years ago.

Not that anyone has got anything to hide but I posted my paperwork today and happened to mention it to my grandmother who is now convinced that as I am putting in a claim the DWP or Atos can turn up on the doorstep and demand to look at the house and she is going on about them going through her private belongings.

I know technically it's not an ESA related question but I thought it might help if someone independent could give an answer to this as she seems to think I will just tell her what she wants to hear.

Sorry for the non topic but she is driving me mad with all the questions and it's not even her that's put in a claim.

There is no reason why anyone should come to your house as a result of an ESA claim (unless you were able to get a home visit for the face-to-face assessment), certainly no reason why anyone should want any information about your grandmother's affairs.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Basil,

Tell granny that I also concur with MHB's advice, in that sending off your ESA50 and being assessed under The ESA WCA would not instigate a vist to your home unless you had requested a home face to face assessment.

Further, trying to gain a home assessment is like trying to gain an audience with the Pope.

Thanks for the reply Mrs H

I can now show her a independent answer to this question, I know it shouldn't drive me mad but she kept asking and my brother just says it's her age and I should be more understanding as she has been like it all her life, although 91 years ago things where very different.

Thanks again :)

Hi Basil,

91 years old, that is some going, and still aware of what is going on by the sound of it.

Your brother is right, you do have to make allowances, things would have been much different in the 1920's 30's and 40's when she was young.

No Welfare State as such, no NHS.

Oh well, maybe we will be reverting back to those times if the current ruling classes get their way.

Give my regards to Granny. :)

Hi Bro

Thanks for the posts, I picked the name Fawlty as it's like living in Fawlty Towers sometimes and I'm Basil

She has calmed down now that she has seen independent replies, like you said things where very different when she was young as she pointed out today and some input about living through the blitz.

She is very lucky, when she had her TIA not far off 90 was the first time she had ever been in hospital, with me it's second nature been in and out all my life.

Thanks again to you and Mrs H you saved me a few months of ear ache
