I seem to remember that there is a medical handbook which they can use re illness/ prognosis and return to work guidelines. Cannot find it anywhere on this site (altho has been mentioned a while back) or any where else.
Am due to receive my ESA to complete soon as the time in SG was for 18 mnths (June 2013) so the thud on the mat is due any day.

Hi pcm,
If you are referring to The WCA Handbook, it is 2nd link from the bottom on this page :
ESA Claims Guides
The DWP do refer to guidance, but it was used with DLA/AA :
search2.openobjects.com/kbroker/dwp/dwp/...f+Medical+Conditions
You may also find The DM Guide helpful :
DM Guide LCW & LCWRA

Not the ones listed above unfortunately.
The handbook listed on the left when a return to work/prognosis. On the right columns illness, aetiology etc.
Was very useful, but cannot locate

Hi pcm,
Well you have managed to "Stump the Moderator"

If it is The Disability Handbook that you are referring to, again that was used with DLA/AA and as you can see, it is now obsolete(since April 2012) :
www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-g...disability-handbook/

I am sure that one of the other Mods will respond, if they are not "Stumped" by your query.
