I am currently receiving SDA. The review date I was given for this under the old system was 1st May 2013. Does this mean that I should expect to start the transfer process to ESA very soon or is the DWP not taking any notice of these review dates? Has anyone on SDA actually been transferred yet?

It's hard to say.
In the original guidance regarding IB, IS and SDA transfers to ESA, they stated that they would adhere to existing review dates.
They also stated that SDA recipients would be transferred over to ESA last.( The migration process is supposed to have been completed by Spring 2014)
We have heard from members where they have been transferred over to ESA before and after an existing review date.
However, as of this time, I cannot recall any of our members who are in receipt of SDA being transferred to ESA.
